Weng took leave that day and our initial plan of either visiting the zoo or going swimming were dashed when we heard the weather report on the news in the morning and the weather forecast predicted thunder and showers.
So we headed to the National Museum instead.
Reece had a great time running around the open space (probably more than he did looking at the exhibits). Riley enjoyed the running around too. But his favourite parts of our visit to the museum were the 3D show at the Pompeii exhibit - it was a rundown of what happened to Pompeii the day Mount Vesuvius erupted, the collection of gifts to the Istana as well as the photo gallery. He found the casts of dead Pompeiians (is there such a word) a little scary, although as we expected, he was also quite drawn to them because of what they are.
In fact, as we left the museum, he exclaimed quite loudly, "There's so much to learn!" (I was surprised - because we didn't explain that this was about learning. We just helped him read what he couldn't and explained the exhibits to him when he asked what they were.)

Looking at the gifts to the Istana. Many swords, daggers and kris. Why other countries give these as gifts befuddles me. I prefered the porcelain items and art works.

The birthday boy! Reece is 1!

At the craft corner of the Pompeii gallery. Making a...

gladiator helmet!
And this was Reece's favourite part of the visit!

After that, it was off to the tailor for Weng to get his new shirts for Chinese New Year. Reece's birthday lunch was yummy dim sum at Tung Lok Paramount and then, we all headed home for a nice, long nap!
What a lovely way to spend a birthday!
